About the Author: Imam al-Jazuli (RA)
أبو عبد الله محمد بن سليمان الجزولي
Imam Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Jazuli (d. 1465 CE) was a great Moroccan Sufi saint and scholar from the lineage of the Prophet (Hasanid). He studied in Fez and spent 14 years in seclusion (khalwa). He is one of the “Seven Saints of Marrakesh.”
The Story of the Well
The inspiration for this book came from a famous incident. Imam al-Jazuli once tried to perform ablution (Wudu) from a well but had no bucket to draw water.
A young girl saw his struggle. She spat into the well, and miraculously, the water rose to the brim, overflowing. The Imam, amazed, asked, “By what did you attain this high station?”
She replied, “By sending abundant blessings upon the one (ﷺ) whose name, when mentioned, causes the wild beasts to be tamed.”
Upon hearing this, Imam al-Jazuli vowed to compile a book of Salawat, which became the Dalail-ul-Khairat.
